let there be light

the universe began

and can end

with a single sentence.

- let there be light, and there was light.

kari luna

cracking open a coconut, milk flowing
down your fingertips. warmth
spilling down your arms.
the earth splits open, gold flowing
up mountain spines. heat
spilling from volcanoes.
dripping like honey.
a river of light and promises
of a new beginning.

you drink the coconut milk,
it drips from the sides of your mouth
and slides down your chin and neck.
you cannot get enough of this.
this thick sweetness that promises
to refresh your soul.

- the light that the earth gives
