heaven sighs: raine

there is a build up of calcium
in the veins of lightning strikes.
the earth takes a gulp of ocean water,
the seaweed mixing with too many grains of sand.

it hides in my lungs.
it sneaks into my bones.
i cannot leave this palace of light.
heaven sighs. the stars moan.
my heart aches for more
than light.
i want the ghost of the sky,
the creature that dwells in the caves of the sea,
a lover of shadows and the lack of gold.

the stars moan, breathless little things
that cannot reach my open hands.
i exhale. slip into cold, blue waters,
where something waits for me.
where the lightning does not reach,
where heaven does not touch me.
the reef takes me in.
